Open education would not exist without technological development. Schools and teachers are more and more often reaching for new educational tools, which, among other things, make it possible to freely share knowledge and information. Students prefer to learn from YouTube rather than textbooks. However, the debate about allowing smartphones into schools still rages on. New studies show that students who use their smartphones score slightly lower on exams; in certain countries, phone usage has been banned in schools.
